Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA) is a four-day Japanese Animation ("anime") and comics ("manga") convention held in Atlanta, Georgia. AWA has a wide variety of events including video room showings of Japanese cartoons from new releases and titles going back to the 1960's, a dealer's room with retailers who sell Japanese animation and manga related merchandise such as toys, videos, audio CD's and artwork, workshops, panel discussions on various anime and manga related topics, a costume contest where attendees dress up as their favorite anime or manga character, guests who have worked or currently are working in the industry. We also have musical performers and a formal ball.
AWA's attendees are usually between the ages of 18 and 30. We encourage parental supervision for those who are younger. Average daily attendance at AWA is over 10,000- 14,000 people.
For information on admission to AWA, go here.
Normal operating hours of the convention start at 12:00pm on Friday and end at 5:00pm Sunday.
Some events will be running 24 hours, such as the video room. Other events, such as Registration and the Dealer's Room, operate at different times during the day.
AWA will have a Parents/Chaprone lounge at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel (see maps or info booth for the location). This is a place for parents to get away from crowds and relax a little. While most areas of the convention require a badge (even for parents/chaprones), the lounge will not. (we just ask that you help us keep the room clean and orderly) More details will be available at the convention.
While AWA is known as a "Family Friendly" convention, our event is not geared towards very young children. Some of the animated titles, programs, and events presented at AWA contain mature content and may be considered too violent or offensive. Some late night video programming (after 12:00 am) will contain adult anime titles. Video rooms showing these titles will restrict minors from entering. Some retailers in the Dealers Room will also be selling adult titles. Retailers are bound by contract not to sell or display adult materials to minors.
If you are unsure of our programming, please feel free to contact us on our web site or talk to our staff during the convention.
AWA encourages parents to be informed regarding what their children are watching and reading.
Thank you for your interest in our convention.
